Instructional Model for Service Industry Education

This mock up was created using Figma.

The instructional model is based on the Dick and Carey Model and ASSURE model.

  • The instructional model for service industry education was designed to help instructors create engaging and effective courses for new service staff. The goal of this model is to fill the gap of educational resources for service staff and trainers. This model lays out the framework for short, hands-on courses that can coach all the necessary skills to provide great service.

This model was created using the Dick and Carey model and the ASSURE model as a reference point. The model Dick and Carey have created is structured while the ASSURE model is a simple circle framework. The goal was to combine the structure and have an order that steps ideally would be completed but have a more continuous flow to it so that it may be manipulated if needed. The model was designed so it could be used over and over again. Whether with the same group learning new topics or new employees. Hiring is a continuous process. Having it as a continuous flowing process makes it easy to use in this setting.

Bartending Interactive Quiz

This quiz was created using powerpoint, Camtasia and Kaltura.

Click Here or on the photo below to take the interactive quiz.

  • This product is targeted towards adults who are learning to bartend. Bartenders need to know the basic and common drinks their customers may order. This video will be created so the viewers can learn from home. There are no official bar tools needed to create the cocktail which will make it more accessible to learners. This video allows viewers (hopeful bartenders) to learn information and check themselves as they go. In the restaurant industry the time for slow paced learning is very slim. Typically, it’s learned by trial and error. For those who want to be prepared this video and quiz is a good jumping off point.

Promotional Ad for
the Reopening of The Mercer

This flyer was created using photoshop and Canva tools.

  • This product is targeted toward potential new customers for the restaurant. The product format of a still ad, allows the customers plenty of time to examine photos of the food product, take photos of the information, use the QR code or google the information listed. It can also easily be posted both in paper format and online on the restaurant's/employees social media.

This product was designed with UDL Principles in mind with an emphasis on the points below-

    Physical action:

The flyer will include several ways for viewers to take action and learn more information. There are multiple accessibility choices for those who need or prefer them (number to call, QR code, dates and times to come in).

Recruiting interest: The flyer uses real photos of food that creates interest and pulls viewers in. It lists times and dates as to when costumers can come in. It also has contact information where costumers can find more photos and full menus.
