MultiMedia Tools for
Mental Health
Education Course

These Multimedia tools shown below were created to help in the educational process and provide a more engaging learning environment. The course I created taught learners how to approach students that are in mental health crisis. Keller’s ARCS model was utilized in the design and development of this course.

Screencast Lesson-
The Stigma of
Mental Health

This video was created using Kaltura to make a simple screencast and voice over lesson and Adobe Premiere to edit.

  • I used my video on advocacy to address ways to help individuals with mental health issues and build confidence in the students. Focusing on the C of Keller’s ARCS model the goal of this lesson was to build confidence in the learners and their ability to advocate for their students.

During my time in this program, I learned how to use various video editing programs such as Adobe Premiere, moviemaker and wandershare. This video was created using Kaltura to make a simple screencast and voice over lesson.

Audio Lesson-
Talking to Students in Mental Health Crisis

This audio lesson was created using Audacity software.

  • This lesson was created to educate teachers and instructors on simple ways to approach students who show signs of mental health crisis. The audio lesson discusses ways to make the conversation safe and comfortable for both the adult and student involved. The lessons ends with a series of mock situations where listeners come up with their own responses and then are presented with a list of ways to handle the situation. This lesson utilizes real world examples and mock conversations meant to make the lesson more engaging and relevant to the listener.

Below is the audio lesson. Click play to listen.

Examples of Mental Health Online Course

In the photographs below you can see the various educational methods that were employed within the mental health course. The course used reading material, videos (both screen recorded and live recordings), audio lessons, flip grid, discussion boards, partner activities and online quizzes. Designing this course was a fun way to learn how to fit different engaging multimedia tools into a lesson and see which type of multimedia worked best with different topics. This course was an excellent source of practice in how to systematically structure an online learning environment and a great opportunity to learn how to navigate the learning management system, Canvas. All of the course material shown above and pictured below were developed by Hannah Cook.
